We are almost 2 weeks away from our wedding (woohooo!!!) and recently got our engagement photos (we took them at the end of May because of COVID-19 and weather conflicts). So, here is my opportunity to share some of the amazing engagement pictures Stephanie Axtell photographed for us. Finding a wedding photographer can be a hard task, but we met with Stephanie back in January and I immediately loved all of her work. Luckily she was available for our wedding (now she will be available for our small wedding this year and our large one next year!).

My favorite part of any engagement session that I see on social media is that you can feel the love between two people. Our session will always bring back memories to that day where the sky was cloudy, but the temperature was perfect. Time flew by because I was just spending a few hours laughing with my best friend!

Here are some of my tips for any upcoming photo sessions:

1. Wear something you feel comfortable in.

I actually went shopping early in the morning before these photos because I decided I didn't like the original shirt I had picked out. I might have been overthinking it a little too much, but now I am really happy with that decision! We decided to do a more casual outfit and a more formal outfit so we could get two different looks. We also chose colors that complimented each other so we wouldn't match too much.

2. Clean your ring.

Cleaning your engagement ring is a great practice because it gets rid of dirt, grime, and germ build-up, but it also just looks great! I love the Diamon Dazzle Stik for quick cleaning that really makes it shine, but I would also recommend taking it in to get professionally cleaned because the jewelers have special equipment and can check your prongs, etc.

3. Do your research.

This goes for photographers, location, and pose ideas! You may already have a location in mind that is special to you, but if you aren't sure, take the time and look through your photographer's previous galleries or even other photographer's work to find some inspiration. We took photos at the Wrightsville Beach Marina and at the north end of Wrightsville Beach.

4. Be smart about pets and props.

You all probably already know that Noah and I are obsessed with our dog Bree. Our friend Jared took some photos of us back in February and we brought Bree along. I knew ahead of time that she would not cooperate because the beach is way too much fun and there are way too many distractions for her to want to sit still and take a photo. This photo is pretty much the only one we were able to get and it is perfect, so we did not bring her for our engagement session. If your fur baby can handle it then bring them for sure because the pictures are priceless!

The same thing goes for props. If you feel it is something that defines your relationship and will be easy to photograph then include it, but if not plan on taking more photos later and incorporating it into a different session.

5. Make it special and have fun!

Turn your engagement session into a fun date or make it more special by getting your hair, makeup, and nails done! You're only engaged once so you might as well enjoy it!
